In response to the high labor intensity and limited economic benefits associated with traditional silkworm breeding methods in Yangcheng County, Shanxi Province, the Yangcheng County Agricultural Machinery Service Center has introduced an innovative steel-frame silkworm culture system. This three-dimensional silkworm culture frame is constructed using standard carbon angle steel, and its key components include a main structure, two-layer culture frames, drainage plates, a conversion mechanism, sliding rails, and a support frame.
The design supports a breeding capacity of 12,500 to 20,000 silkworms, capable of feeding 0.5 to 0.8 kilograms of silkworms per batch. After initial trials, the system was found to operate smoothly without issues, allowing silkworms to move freely on the netting, ensuring proper ventilation and light exposure. This significantly reduces the required greenhouse space and enhances overall efficiency.
By adopting this three-dimensional culture system, farmers can improve work efficiency, maximize greenhouse utilization, and create better physiological conditions for silkworms. As a result, disease incidence is reduced, and farmers' income is expected to increase substantially. The product has already passed the preliminary evaluation by the county-level project review committee and is now being prepared for wider implementation. This innovation marks a significant step forward in modernizing silkworm farming in the region.
