PMC-AX module for automatic test equipment

Acromag's new PMC-AX module offers advanced, customizable analog I/O solutions with embedded FPGA-based processing. Designed for high-performance applications, it features a Xilinx Virtex-II FPGA with 24,000 logic cells, enabling complex signal processing without relying on the host CPU. The module supports input sampling rates of up to 65MSPS, making it ideal for demanding systems such as sonar, satellite downlink controllers, automated test equipment, and simulation instruments. Priced around $2,500, it operates reliably in extreme temperatures, from –40°C to 85°C. The PMC-AX module is highly configurable, offering optional FPGA gate counts of 1M, 2M, and 3M, corresponding to 12K, 17K, and 24K logic cells respectively. Each variant includes on-chip memory and high-speed interfaces, enhancing performance for digital signal processing tasks. Additionally, the board supports optional analog components: a 4-channel 14-bit ADC with sampling rates of 20MHz or 65MHz, and a 2-channel 16-bit DAC operating at 900kHz. The PLX PCI 9056 controller provides robust 32-bit, 66MHz bus control along with dual-channel DMA support, ensuring efficient data transfer between the FPGA and the host system. For data handling, the board includes 1MB of dual-port RAM for real-time storage and 2MB of flash memory for FPGA configuration. It also features 1Mb of internal FPGA memory for managing FIFO buffers during ADC and DAC operations. To facilitate development, Acromag provides an Engineering Design Kit that allows users to write and load VHDL code into the FPGA, while supporting DMA transfers between the FPGA and the CPU. The board is further supported by a DLL driver package compatible with Microsoft Visual C++ and Visual Basic, simplifying integration into Windows-based applications. In addition, Acromag offers C libraries for VxWorks, QNX, and other real-time operating systems, ensuring broad compatibility across different platforms.
