On December 29, Ningbo Engineering Co., Ltd. achieved a major milestone by successfully lifting the first crude argon column and crude argon condenser of the cold box for the IGCC air separation unit at the Fujian Refinery Ethylene Project—completing the task in just one and a half hours. This groundbreaking operation set a new record for similar equipment in China, offering a valuable reference for future large-scale lifting projects.
The cold box's crude argon column has a diameter of 2.8 meters and a length of 47.8 meters, while the connected crude argon condenser measures 3.368 meters in diameter and 5.2 meters in length. Together, the equipment weighs 62 tons and spans a total length of 53 meters. Due to its unique material—aluminum-magnesium alloy—the structure is relatively soft and lacks flexibility, making it highly susceptible to deformation during transportation and lifting. This made the project particularly challenging, as there had been no prior domestic experience with such equipment.
The successful lift not only demonstrated the company’s technical expertise but also highlighted the importance of precise planning and execution in handling complex industrial components. This achievement marks a significant step forward in China's capability to manage and execute high-level engineering projects in the petrochemical industry.
