Hyundai Motors recently hosted the "2008 New Truck and Bus Launch Conference" in Seoul, South Korea. At the event, the company unveiled 10 new truck and bus models equipped with large and medium-sized diesel engines developed independently by Hyundai Motor. This launch marked a significant milestone as it officially kicked off the commercial production of diesel engines for Hyundai’s commercial vehicle line.
Over 400 attendees, including Vice President Jin Dongjin, were present at the conference. The newly introduced models included Mighty, Megatruck, Trago, e-county, Aerotown, Global900, Superaerocity, and the highly anticipated "UNIVERSE" bus. These vehicles are powered by Hyundai's F, G, H, and Powertech series engines, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation and performance.
To ensure quality and reliability, Hyundai invested heavily in research and development, testing over 150 prototype vehicles and more than 600 engine units. The company conducted over 8 million miles of road tests and more than 100,000 hours of durability testing. As a result, the new diesel engines significantly improved the power, fuel efficiency, and long-term reliability of Hyundai’s commercial vehicles.
In addition to enhancing engine performance, Hyundai also focused on improving the interior design and user experience of these ten new models, making them more appealing to customers. The "UNIVERSE" bus, which previously made an appearance at the Tokyo Motor Show, is now seen as a strong contender for the Japanese market. It aims to capture 10% of Japan’s commercial vehicle market share and has already attracted considerable attention from Japanese media.
According to data released in November 2007, Hyundai’s commercial vehicle sales were performing well. In South Korea, 32,190 units were sold, while 18,744 units were exported—showing a 14.7% and 13% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This positive trend highlights the growing demand for Hyundai’s commercial vehicles both domestically and internationally.
