House fire in Joliet, 7-19-23

From Chris Skrabel: I just followed Truck Company 9 from Joliet to a really intense mansion-style house fire. It was quite a challenge, but Joliet did an excellent job sticking to their standard operating procedures for a working fire. They managed to keep things under control despite the scale of the situation. [Attached are several photos taken by Chris Skrabel] From patch.com: Around 4:31 p.m., the Joliet Fire Department received a call about a structure fire at 606 Rookery Lane. First responders arrived on the scene in less than three minutes and were immediately confronted with thick smoke and flames engulfing the two-story single-family home. Fortunately, the property was unoccupied and under construction at the time, so all workers were able to evacuate safely before the firefighters arrived. Inside, multiple hose lines were deployed to tackle the blaze on the second floor. Meanwhile, other teams focused on critical tasks like water supply, search operations, ventilation, salvage efforts, overhaul, safety monitoring, and providing backup support. By 5:40 p.m., the fire department had successfully brought the fire under control. Units from stations 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 were dispatched to assist at the scene. Thankfully, there were no reports of any injuries among firefighters or civilians. Interestingly, last September, the Joliet City Council designated 606 Rookery Lane as a public nuisance due to its condition. [Attached are additional photos taken by Chris Skrabel] This event highlights the incredible teamwork and professionalism displayed by the Joliet Fire Department, especially when dealing with large-scale incidents like this one.
