4-Alarm house fire in Barrington Hills – 1-30-17 (part 1)

The first in a series of posts documenting the devastating fire that broke out at 26161 W. Cuba Road in Barrington Hills on January 30, 2017. This was one of the largest and most intense fires in recent memory, with firefighters working tirelessly to contain the blaze that ultimately destroyed a massive mansion. Below are several images from the scene, captured by local photographer Larry Shapiro. The first photo shows an E-ONE Typhoon e-MAX fire engine drafting water from a tank, highlighting the critical role of water supply during large-scale incidents. Another image captures firefighters battling flames as they worked to prevent the fire from spreading further. One shot features a dramatic view of the mansion engulfed in flames, while another shows a firefighter silhouetted against the fire, emphasizing the danger and intensity of the situation. A tower ladder is seen being used as an engine, demonstrating the adaptability of emergency crews in high-pressure scenarios. Additional photos show an E-ONE e-MAX pumper on site, along with portable tanks set up for a tanker shuttle operation, which is essential when a nearby water source isn’t available. These images give a powerful visual account of the effort and coordination required to manage such a major incident. This is just the beginning of our coverage from this tragic event, and more updates will follow in the coming days.
