A barn fire was reported this afternoon at 544 Penny Road in Barrington Hills, where the vacant structure is located on Cook County Forest Preserve land behind a now-unoccupied caretaker's home. When the first units from the Barrington Fire Department arrived, the fire was already fully involved, prompting an immediate upgrade to a box alarm for water tankers and additional personnel.

Five water tankers were dispatched to the scene, including units from Long Grove, Palatine Rural, East Dundee, Wauconda, and Bartlett. Engine companies arrived from Carpentersville, Lake Zurich, Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Hoffman Estates, and Fox River Grove. In addition, Palatine sent Quint 81 along with Cary Squad 255, Buffalo Grove Ambulance 26, and Arlington Heights Ambulance 1. Local firefighters and emergency responders were quick to arrive, and several media crews were also on the scene. Tim Olk, Scott Peterson, and Larry Shapiro are expected to share photos and updates soon. As of now, no injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
