Extrication response in Buffalo Grove, 8-12-22

On August 12, 2022, at approximately 2:30 PM, emergency services in Buffalo Grove were called to respond to a vehicle entrapment incident on Arlington Heights Road. The location was 1185 Auburn Lane, situated north of Lake Cook Road and near the intersection with Arlington Heights Road. A man reported being trapped under his truck, and the address was confirmed through a cell phone ping. Upon arrival, responding units found a tractor-trailer parked in the northbound curb lane adjacent to the address. The driver had parked the vehicle and crawled underneath it to inspect or attempt repairs on a mechanical issue. Unfortunately, as the truck was on a slight downward slope, it shifted slightly, and one of the rear wheels pinned the driver's foot, trapping him in place. Firefighters quickly assessed the situation and raised concerns about the stability of the rig. To ensure a safe rescue, they called for additional support from Long Grove Squad 55 and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Squad 51, who provided cribbing to stabilize the truck. They also requested a heavy wrecker to lift the vehicle off the driver. Soon after, Hillside Towing arrived, and with the use of airbags and the cribbing materials, the firefighters successfully freed the trapped individual. The two supporting squads were later canceled, and the tow truck remained on standby before eventually removing the tractor-trailer from the scene. The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation but was not seriously injured. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers involved in working on large vehicles and the importance of proper safety procedures.
