Here’s the latest information on the Chicago Fire Department’s Office of the Fire Inspector (OFI). The OFI is now based out of Engine 16’s firehouse located at 53 E. Pershing Road. The OFI headquarters has also moved to this location, and they’ve taken over the South EMS Division side of the building. I believe the South Side EMS Division is now operating from Engine 84’s station.
Below is a list of current OFI units:
- OFI 4-6-6 – 2015 Ford Explorer, VIN: FDB604
- OFI 4-6-7 – 2018 Ford E350, VIN: FDB622
- OFI 4-6-8 – 2015 Ford Explorer, VIN: FDB606
- OFI 4-6-9 – 2018 Ford E350, VIN: FDB625
The OFI plays a crucial role in inspecting buildings, ensuring compliance with fire codes, and supporting fire prevention efforts across the city. It's interesting to see how the department continues to reorganize and optimize its operations to better serve the community. These vehicles are likely used for daily inspections, site visits, and administrative tasks related to fire safety.
