The Orland Fire Protection District is set to kick off renovations at Station 2 later this fall. This facility, located at the intersection of 151st and 80th Avenue, first opened its doors back in 1980. Originally designed to house volunteer and part-time staff, Station 2 initially featured just one garage bay and a small combined space that served as an office, kitchen, and common area. At the time, it wasn’t intended to support full-time staffing or around-the-clock operations.
However, as demand for emergency services grew over the years, so too did the station's responsibilities. To meet these new requirements, several upgrades were implemented, including the addition of more bays and an expansion of the kitchen and recreational areas. Despite these modifications, the station still lacks modern compliance with current safety standards and operational needs due to its piecemeal construction history. Recognizing this, the Orland Fire Protection District Board of Trustees gave final approval for a comprehensive overhaul during their June 2013 meeting.
The renovation work is scheduled to commence this autumn and should wrap up within roughly eight weeks. While we don’t yet have official images of the finished product, artist renderings suggest significant improvements are on the horizon. These plans aim to modernize the layout while ensuring long-term functionality and adherence to contemporary codes.

As of now, Station 2 remains operational but bears noticeable signs of wear from decades of continuous service. A recent photograph captures the current state of affairs—a stark contrast to what residents can expect once the project concludes.
Many thanks go out to Kevin for sharing his insights and providing visual context. It’s always inspiring to see communities investing in their public infrastructure like this!
