Extrication response in Buffalo Grove, 8-12-22

Police officers and firefighters from Buffalo Grove were called to an entrapment incident today (August 12, 2022) at 2:30 PM. The location was 1185 Auburn Lane, situated north of Lake Cook Road near Arlington Heights Road. A man reported that he was trapped under his truck, and the address was confirmed through a cell phone ping. Upon arrival, emergency responders found a tractor-trailer parked in the northbound curb lane of Arlington Heights Road, near the specified address. The driver had parked the vehicle and crawled underneath to inspect or attempt repairs on a mechanical issue. Unfortunately, as the truck was on a slight downhill slope, it shifted slightly, causing one of the rear wheels to pin the driver's foot and trap him in place. Firefighters immediately recognized the danger and requested additional support. They called for Long Grove Squad 55 and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Squad 51 to provide cribbing for stability. At the same time, a heavy wrecker was dispatched from Hillside Towing to potentially lift the truck off the driver. Once the wrecker arrived, firefighters used airbags and the available cribbing to carefully free the trapped individual. The two supporting squads were later released, and the tow truck eventually removed the tractor-trailer from the scene. The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation but is reported to be in stable condition. This incident highlights the importance of safety when working under vehicles, especially on slopes or uneven ground. Local authorities are reminding drivers to always use proper equipment and ensure vehicles are properly secured before performing any maintenance underneath them.
