According to the report of the Vietnamese government’s website on January 24, the Central Committee of the Vietnamese National Assembly has published opinions on the draft environmental protection tax rate table on the government’s website. According to the draft, the environmental tax for petrol and aviation oil is 1,000 dong/liter; for other oils, it is 300-500 dong/liter. The environmental tax on plastic bags is as high as 40,000 dongs/kg. At present, the retail price of plastic bags is only 30,000 dongs/kg. The environmental protection tax will begin on the date of the effective entry into force of the environmental protection law on January 1, 2012.
