It was just after midnight on Monday when a CPD patrol car reported a fire at 5757 S. Hermitage, saying flames were coming out of the front window. Since we were only four blocks away, Josh and I decided to head over. We arrived before Engine 116 and found fire blowing out of the first-floor front room, with flames extending up the front of the two-and-a-half-story, 25x50 frame house. Engine 116 deployed a line to the front and attacked the main fire from the outside, while Tower 39 went to the roof for ventilation. Engine 123 pulled up behind Tower 39 and was set up to use their deck gun, but that plan was quickly canceled.The crews did an amazing job containing the fire so quickly. This part of Hermitage has homes that are closely spaced, so this could have easily turned into a major incident if not for the fast response.Dennis
