Chicago working fire, 10-13-14

Here's a report from Dennis McGuire, Jr.:

Shortly after midnight on Monday morning, a CPD patrol car reported a fire at 5757 S. Hermitage, stating that flames were coming out of the front window. Since we were only four blocks away, Josh and I decided to check it out. We arrived just before Engine 116 and found fire pouring out of the first-floor front room, with flames extending up the front of the 2-1/2 story, 25x50 frame house. Engine 116 quickly deployed a line to the front and began attacking the main fire from the exterior, while Tower 39 went to the roof for ventilation. Engine 123 pulled up behind Tower 39 and was set up to use their deck gun, but that plan was later canceled.

The crews did an excellent job containing the fire quickly. This part of Hermitage has homes built closely together, so this could have easily gotten out of control if not for the fast response.
