Bosch launches low-cost common-rail system intended to expand national III share
Due to the rapid growth of China's heavy industry and automotive sector in recent years, the demand for gantry machining centers—particularly large-scale ones—has surged dramatically. As a result, both international brands and domestic manufacturers have increasingly entered the market, offering a wide range of options. However, the performance, capabilities, and target applications of these machines vary significantly.
Gantry machining centers come in several types: fixed beam (beam fixed, table rotates), moving beam (beam moves vertically, table moves horizontally), moving column (table fixed, gantry moves), and bridge type. There are also composite configurations. Each type is designed for specific processing needs, and their technical features and application scopes differ accordingly.
Lansheng Company has proposed a comprehensive procurement plan for gantry machining centers tailored to user requirements. Here are the key considerations:
First, when evaluating gantry machining centers, stability, feasibility, and cost-effectiveness should be the main criteria. Taiwanese manufacturers, such as Yawei, have been producing these machines for over 10 years, which has allowed them to refine their designs and improve product reliability. Their prices are relatively low, and real-world examples, like Beijing Aki using Yawei’s machines for EDM machine beds, show that they can maintain factory precision even after a decade of use. While other domestic brands like Beiyi, Jiji, and Wuzhong have also made progress, most others have only recently started R&D and production, making it harder to assess their long-term performance.
Second, for heavy cutting applications, European brands are typically preferred due to their advanced technology. Spain’s Nicholas is considered a top choice, balancing high-quality performance with reasonable pricing.
Third, for large automotive sheet metal and plastic molds, Taiwanese brands like Yawei, Qiaowei Jin, Qiaofu, and Xiehong are widely used in China. These manufacturers have hundreds of units operating domestically each year, proving their reliability and suitability for such tasks.
Fourth, for high-precision mold processing and large parts requiring excellent surface finishes, Japanese brands such as Otsuka and Toshiba New Japan Machines offer clear advantages. Otsuka is more commonly used for general manufacturing, while Toshiba focuses on high-grade molds and large box structures.
Fifth, five-axis and high-speed gantry machining centers are generally not exported to China due to U.S.-China technological restrictions, especially for military or sensitive industries. In China, German, Italian, and Spanish brands are more commonly used. For high-performance, cost-effective, and high-speed five-axis gantry machines suitable for heavy cutting, Spanish products are often the best choice. Additionally, Taiwan’s Jiangze has also introduced high-speed five-axis gantry machines into the mainland market.
Sixth, for lightweight material processing, such as automotive models, Ximansi is the top choice. These machines feature high-speed five-axis capabilities and are ideal for large-size applications. However, their price can be around 500,000 Euros, making them a premium option.
Lastly, for domestic gantry machining centers, many Chinese manufacturers have emerged in recent years. Some have established joint ventures or collaborations with foreign companies, introducing advanced technologies. Others have imported components like spindles and assembled the rest locally. Although there is still a gap compared to international counterparts, domestic machines offer better value for money. Lansheng encourages supporting domestic choices where appropriate.
