New home for former Elmhurst squad

From the Boone County Sheriff’s Office:

On Thursday, November 18th, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., the Boone County Sheriff’s Office officially introduced its new Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Air Truck. This important addition to local emergency response was made possible through a collaborative effort between the Sheriff’s Office and all fire departments in Boone County, who shared the costs of the purchase. The participating fire departments include Boone County Fire District #1 (Capron), Boone County Fire District #2 (Southern Boone County), North Boone Fire District #3, and the Belvidere Fire Department. Each department contributed $15,000 in cash and/or equipment toward the project. Additionally, General Mills, based in Belvidere, generously donated $5,000 to support the initiative.

The EMA Air Truck is a used E-One heavy rescue vehicle that will primarily be used to refill firefighter air tanks at fire scenes and during water rescues. It will be staffed by EMA volunteers and deployed not only within Boone County but also across the region when needed. This truck replaces an older model that had reached the end of its service life and could no longer be relied upon for critical operations.
