Here's more from Steve Redick on the 3-11 alarm fire in Chicago on July 1st, 2013:
After a long and intense operation, it was decided to shut down the master streams and allow the fire to burn through the roof area in order to gain better access for firefighters. This was captured in some great photographs, and there was a sudden collapse of the truss addition that had been added to the structure. I didn’t get the actual collapse on camera, but if you look closely at the before and after shots, you can see the difference. The reserve snorkel was called in and put into action — always an interesting scene to capture. At this point, a 3-11 was requested because no companies were left in staging. I suspect they weren’t actually used. I shot another panoramic shot, and as Denny McGuire noted, it was unique to see two snorkels and two tower ladders (both HME) operating simultaneously. I left the scene shortly after and witnessed Engine 1 arriving at its new quarters at 53 E. Pershing — I didn’t take a photo, though. Hope you found the photos and video interesting.
