Working fire in Chicago, 5-18-18

This is from Steve Redick:

On Friday, May 18th, 2018, a fire broke out in the 6600 block of N. Olmsted. The response was delayed due to an alley garage that created a bottleneck, causing a significant hold-up in getting the RIT truck company on scene. Fire had already gained a strong hold in hidden spaces and knee wall areas, which required extensive truck work to fully suppress. Later in the incident, some firefighters found themselves in a dangerous situation on the roof when fire conditions shifted rapidly, cutting off access to the aerial ladder. Fortunately, the fire was quickly knocked down using interior handlines, which helped bring the situation under control.
Despite challenging conditions—such as a narrow street, overhanging tree branches, and power lines—Truck 9 managed to position their aerial safely. One of the final photos taken shows the relief on the faces of those who were rescued. All the images from this incident can be viewed here.
