Japan's plastic packaging output value has increased continuously for several years. From 1,288,500 million yen in 1999 to 1,567 billion yen in 2005. The output of plastic packaging increased from 3.46 million tons in 1999 to 3.95 million tons in 2005. Japan's plastic packaging output value rose from 22.1% in 2000 to 28.8% in 2005. The proportion of plastic packaging production to total production increased from 15.9% in 2000 to 18.9% in 2005. The output of all plastic products in Japan, including packaging products, was 6.14 million tons in 2005 and increased to 6.4 million tons in 2006. The output of plastic raw materials in 2006 was more than 14 million tons.
The packaging industry is Japan's largest application area for plastics, and nearly one-third of plastics are used in the production of various packaging materials and containers. The proportions of Japanese plastics used in various industries are: packaging 33%, building materials 30%, electrical and electronic 10%, automotive 7%, agriculture 5%, toys, sports goods 3%, mechanical products 2%, clothing, footwear 1 %, other 4%.
Plastic processing machinery that produces packaging and other plastic products is also well-developed in Japan. In the past 10 years or so, the annual output value of plastic processing machinery in Japan was more than 200 billion yen. In 2000, the output value was 237 billion yen. In 2004, it was increased to 249 billion yen, and in 2005 it was reduced to 235.3 billion yen, in 2006. It increased to 252.6 billion yen again. The output in 2006 was 19,670 sets, which was an increase of 3.6% over the previous year. Among them, the output value of the injection molding machine was 201 billion yen, an increase of 7.1%, and the output was 17040 units, an increase of 6.1%. The output value of models with less than 100 tons of mold clamping pressure in the injection molding machine was 54.8 billion yen, an increase of 8.1% over the previous year, and the output was 7,400 units, an increase of 8.1%. The closing force of 100 to 200 tons is 58.3 billion yen and 5,740, the 200 to 500 tons are 49 billion yen and 2945, and the 500 tons are 42.5 billion yen and 950. The output value of the extruder was 34 billion yen, an increase of 9% over the previous year, and the output was 2,120 units, a decrease of 14%. The output value of the blow molding machine was 13.6 billion yen, an increase of 8%, and the output was 513 units, an increase of 10%.
In 2006, Japan's plastics processing machinery exports amounted to 175.2 billion yen, an increase of 5% over the previous year, but exports decreased by 2%. Among them, there are 684 and 22.4 billion yen for extrusion molding machines, 15,845 for injection molding machines and 146 billion yen for injection molding machines, and 359 and 11.2 billion yen for blow molding machines.
The import value of plastic processing machinery increased from 9.2 billion yen in 2003 to 10.6 billion yen in 2004 and 13.9 billion yen in 2005, and increased to 16.2 billion yen in 2006, an increase of 16%. Among them, the injection molding machine was 8 billion yen, an increase of 28%, the extrusion molding machine was 4.5 billion yen, an increase of 46%, and the blow molding machine was 3.7 billion yen, a decrease of 18%. In 2006, the import volume was 5,176 sets, an increase of 40% over the previous year. Among them, 4430 were injection molding machines, an increase of 44%, 620 extrusion molding machines, an increase of 47%, and 207 blow molding machines, a decrease of 16%.
