According to reports by French media, Iran’s supply of natural gas to Turkey was restored around 4 pm local time on the 27th, with a daily supply of 1.5 to 2 million cubic meters, which was greatly reduced compared to the previous 29 million cubic meters. Officials of the Turkish Ministry of Energy stated that they hope that the supply of natural gas can gradually recover in the coming days.
The Iranian side stopped exporting natural gas to Turkey on January 7 because of severe weather and a sharp increase in domestic demand. In addition, Turkmenistan also stopped supplying natural gas to Turkey for the same reasons.
In this case, Turkey was forced to stop exporting natural gas to Greece and import more natural gas from Russia.
From December 2001, Iran supplied natural gas to Turkey through a pipeline linking the northwestern city of Tabriz in Iran with Ankara, the capital of Turkey. Turkish officials stated that Turkey and Iran plan to build a second natural gas pipeline.
