Firefighters from Northbrook, Wheeling, Prospect Heights, Glenview, and Deerfield responded to a residential fire at 4085 Evergreen Lane, located in an unincorporated area near Sanders Road just off the I-294 tollway. The incident was reported shortly after midnight on April 8, 2022, with residents calling in about smoke inside the home and hot walls following the use of a fireplace. Two occupants were already outside when firefighters arrived, but the RED Center later informed responding units that a handicapped individual was unable to evacuate on their own.
Northbrook Engine 10 was the first to arrive and immediately noticed smoke. Ambulance 10 quickly retrieved a wheelchair-bound resident from the house. As the situation unfolded, visible flames were spotted on the exterior of the structure. Prospect Heights Engine 39 worked to contain and extinguish the fire.
The neighborhood lacks public hydrants, so a supply line was stretched from a hydrant at the entrance of Sanders Road to Northbrook Squad 11, which then relayed water to Engine 10. Firefighters worked efficiently under challenging conditions to bring the fire under control and ensure the safety of all involved.
