Auto parts enterprises accelerate the deployment of new energy fields

With the global surge in new energy vehicles, automotive parts companies both at home and abroad are intensifying their efforts to tap into China's growing market. At the Shanghai International Auto Show, several leading auto parts firms, including Bosch and Wanxiang, announced plans to manufacture key components for new energy vehicles within China, aiming to capture a significant share of this rapidly expanding sector. Despite facing its first loss since World War II in 2009, Bosch has seen strong growth in China. Uwe Raschke, head of Bosch’s Asia Pacific region, highlighted that “China is the only major market for Bosch where growth has remained consistent.” He added, “We believe our business in China will continue to expand this year, and we are prepared to increase our investments.” A major focus of this expansion is on new energy products. During the Shanghai Auto Show, Peng Deyuan, President of Bosch China, revealed that the company will introduce safe and durable hybrid vehicles and lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles in China. In 2008, Bosch formed a joint venture with Samsung to develop high-power-density lithium-ion batteries. Additionally, Bosch offers a comprehensive range of products for parallel and series hybrid systems, positioning itself strongly in the core components market of new energy vehicles. Wanxiang Group, one of China’s leading auto parts manufacturers, has also accelerated its push into the new energy vehicle sector. Recently, it launched a new production base for pure electric vehicles and lithium batteries in the Xiaoshan Economic Development Zone in Hangzhou, with an investment of 1.365 billion yuan. The company aims to produce 1,000 pure electric commercial vehicles and 1 billion watt-hours of lithium-ion batteries annually by 2010, significantly boosting its industry scale. Moreover, more research institutions and component suppliers are entering the new energy automotive market. At the 2009 Global Procurement Summit Forum for the Automotive Industry, Zheng Xiancong, Chief Representative of Fiat China's Global Procurement Center and Vice President of Fiat China, emphasized that the financial crisis could bring opportunities for Chinese auto parts companies. He encouraged them to focus more on new energy products, such as electric vehicles, as components meeting national standards would have greater potential in the future.
