Here's more from Steve Redick on the 3-11 alarm fire in Chicago on July 1st, 2013:
After a long time of battling the fire, it was decided to shut down the master streams and let the fire take the roof area in order to create better access for firefighters. This happened in a visually striking way, and shortly after, the truss addition collapsed suddenly. I didn’t get the actual collapse on camera, but with a close look, you can see the before and after shots. The reserve snorkel was called in and put to work — always an interesting scene to capture. At this point, a 3-11 was requested because no companies were left in staging. I suspect they weren’t actually used. I shot another panoramic shot, and as Denny McGuire noted, it was unique to see two snorkels and two tower ladders (both HMEs) operating simultaneously. I left the scene not long after and got a nice view of Engine 1 arriving at its new quarters at 53rd and Pershing — though I didn’t photograph it. Hope you found the photos and video interesting.
