September 23, 2017 – At approximately 0645 hours, the 5th Battalion and several companies were deployed to a reported fire at a three-story ordinary apartment building. While en route, the Englewood Fire Administration Officer (FAO) issued a Still & Box alarm for reports of people trapped inside. Engine Company 84 and Truck Company 51 arrived first and reported heavy fire in the rear of the structure. Battalion 5 soon followed and confirmed that the fire had extended through the roof. A 2-11 Alarm was called by 2-2-1, who ordered all units to pull out of the building due to unsafe conditions. Five 2½-inch lines were stretched, while Tower Ladder 37 and Squad Company 5’s Snorkel operated elevated master streams. Engine Companies 84, 45, and 50 used their deck guns to attack the fire from the exterior. Unfortunately, search operations could not be completed due to concerns over the building’s structural integrity. Firefighters also faced challenging conditions, including high humidity and temperatures in the mid-80s. Still Alarm companies involved included: E84, E47, T51, T30, BN5, Sq5, 2-7-5, RIT, BN6, T15, A55, A36, and 4-5-8.
