The reporter learned from the Ningbo Formosa Plastics Industrial Park yesterday that the construction of 150,000 tons / styrene acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN) of Formosa Plastics (Ningbo) Co., Ltd. has been officially started. According to the person in charge of the Ningbo Formosa Plastics Industrial Park Management Office, this year is a key year for Ningbo Formosa Plastics Relational Enterprises' first-stage expansion project to be implemented. There will be a series of projects that will start one after another during the year, with an annual output of 60,000 tons of water-absorbing resin projects and annual production. 200,000 tons of polyethylene vinyl acetate, annual output of 300,000 tons of phenol / 18.5 tons of acetone and other projects will also start in the near future.
In 2001, Formosa Plastics began investing in a petrochemical specialty park in the Ningbo Development Zone. In 2010, Formosa Plastics and the Ningbo Municipal Government signed an investment agreement again and plans to continue building 15 projects in the first phase of the project in the Ningbo Development Zone.
The 15 expansion projects include annual production of 150,000 tons of PVC (polyvinyl chloride), annual production of 200,000 tons of EVA (chlorinated polypropylene resin), annual production of 160,000 tons of AA (acrylic acid), and an annual output of 200,000 tons AE (acrylic ester), annual output of 1.5 million tons of PTA (pure terephthalic acid), annual production of 200,000 tons of PS (polystyrene) and other projects. All projects will be built one after another in the next two years and it is expected that they will be completed and put into production by the end of 2013.
